Mingyu Huang
PhD, started 2026
Mingyu is a DPhil student in the OATML group at the University of Oxford, supervised by Yarin Gal. His research interests centre on agentic systems for scientific optimisation. Before joining Oxford, he completed an MSc in Computer Science at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. During his final year, he worked as a Research Assistant with Professor Ke Li at the University of Exeter and the Earlham Institute. His previous research uncovered hidden structure in black-box optimisation landscapes, from hyperparameter tuning and software configuration to protein engineering. He also built agents that distil large-scale paper corpora into traceable knowledge bases for guiding discovery. His DPhil is funded by GSK through the Healthcare Data Science CDT.
